Mike was sentenced to 2 years in prison for selling and supplying illegal substances. While in prison he chose to attend the ‘Jail to Jobs’ program, a workforce development service run by Outcare. He gained information on writing a resume, some interview techniques and learned how to disclose his convictions. Mike also obtained a forklift licence while in prison.
An Outcare Case Manager conducted Mike’s assessment six months prior to his release. Finding a steady job after release from prison was identified as one of his immediate needs. Following his release and with the assistance of his Outcare Employment Case Manager, Mike secured full‑time employment with a large construction company. Outcare maintained contact with him on a fortnightly basis during his post placement support phase, supporting his journey. Mike is still employed, has since received a pay rise, and has encouraged one of his fellow ex‑offender friends to apply for work in the same company.
