Sarah is a mother of eight children who had been imprisoned for four years for neglecting to protect them from sexual abuse by her husband. As a result of this crime she is now listed with the sex offender registry. Sarah believed that had she made a report, her husband would have killed her children.
Her Outcare Case Manager identified Sarah’s needs as ongoing practical support, accommodation, and support for mental health issues. Outcare accommodation was initially provided and as a result of our advocacy Sarah was placed on the priority housing list. Eventually we helped Sarah to find a suitable private rental, locate some furniture and move in. She currently still lives there and is still employed, having recently been promoted. Importantly Sarah now has regular contact with her children and attends psychologist appointments that help with her mental health.
