On Wednesday 28th October, Outcare held its Annual General Meeting at Gloucester Park in East Perth. With around 70 people in attendance including members, Board members, staff and stakeholders, the night provided an opportunity for the organisation to highlight the work it has done over the last twelve months. During the formal proceedings, Outcare welcomed three new elected Board Members including Her Honour Judge Anette Schoombee, Gordon Trewern and John Vojkovich. All three individuals bring a variety of knowledge and skills to the Board table that will go a long way to helping Outcare achieve its Vision and Purpose.
In the night’s key note address, those in attendance were then treated to an insightful and thought-provoking presentation from the Inspector of Custodial Services, Professor Neil Morgan. Professor Morgan provided an overview of the role Office of Inspector of Custodial Services (OICS), discussed the current challenges in corrections, and looked at the opportunities and challenges for the non-government sector. Some of those challenges for the non-government sector that Professor Morgan spoke about included targeting needs and not just numbers, examining opportunities to partner with other NGO’s and the private sector, and measuring and evaluating what we do in terms of outcomes and costs.
