Services for women

St John of God women’s program

With female prison populations beyond capacity, access to rehabilitation services is challenging. Family pressures, including motherhood, often complicates life after prison, therefore a special type of support is required for women. Funded by the Sisters of St John of God, this vital program aims to support women to reintegrate into the community.

Domestic violence, financial hardship and substance abuse are common characteristics of female offenders. Outcare’s  case management approach means we work with women while in prison as well as after their release to support them to reconnect to their family and live crime-free. We can assist with practical aspects such as finding accommodation or employment and providing information on Centrelink and other government agencies. Other assistance includes referrals to counseling and family service support agencies.

Sarah’s story highlights the impact of the women’s program.
